How many kilometers will you be pedaling?

BIKE RIDE ON THE RÉ ISLAND

On vacation, for a weekend or just for the day, with family, friends or even on your own, Ré island is a unique location for cycling.

Cycling and discovering wonderful landscapes, enjoying the sea air – yes, but for how many kilometers?

Depending on your companions, your desires, the time you have available and the climate, it’s essential to adapt your rides and plan your itineraries.

Rides for everyone

We’ve put together a selection of tours in ascending order of kilometers, so you can choose your own itinerary according to your fitness level and desires.

Short rides, between 2km and 5km

Perfect for cycling with children, or simply if it’s windy and you’re not in the sporting mood, these short rides only take you an average of 10 to 20 minutes.

After crossing the bridge, you’re in Sablanceaux.

On either side of it are large beaches where you can often enjoy the sweep of the many kite-surfers. From here you can go to the center of Rivedoux-Plage, just 2km away. A short bike ride and a breathtaking view.

From the village of Les Portes-en-Ré to the Saint-Clément-des-Baleines lighthouse

A 3.6km ride through the salt marshes. A 15-minute bike ride takes you to this sublime lighthouse, a must-see on the Île de Ré. You’ll then have to climb to the top, but that’s another story!

If you’re in Saint-Martin

After visiting this superb commune and its Vauban fortifications, you can head for the beaches of Bois-Plage en Ré, passing through the vineyards. Here, you’ll discover wine-growing, one of the island’s most important activities. Don’t hesitate to visit the cooperative, where you’ll be able to discover the different wines from Ré. This walk will only take you 15 minutes or 3.6km.

From Saint-Martin, you can also visit the pretty port of La flotte.

Why not enjoy a delicious ice cream while watching the boats, there’s nothing like it after you’ve finished pedaling!

This 4.4km walk will only take you 15 minutes.

Intermediate rides, between 6km and 15km

If you’ve got a little more time on your hands and would like to discover the island by bike, while enjoying the sea spray and combining sport, relaxation and tourism, these rides are for you.

From Saint-Martin to la Couarde-Sur-Mer

7km of seaside cycle path. 30 minutes of dazzling views. You can even stop off at one of the oyster huts along the way to sample the local seafood, before heading off to the market or the beaches of La Couarde.

From the market in Loix

Charming little village in the salt marshes, reach Ars and its famous black-and-white bell tower in 35 minutes. It’s an 8.5km walk that’s sure to give you a change of scenery!

After a little shopping in Saint-Martin

Get back on your bike and head through the woods to Sainte-Marie. A bucolic ride of almost 10km that’s sure to delight. For those with a sweet tooth, there’s a great crêperie on the Place des Tilleuls.

On arrival in Sablanceaux

If you’re feeling up to a 15km bike ride, there’s a 1-hour ride to La Couarde. You’ll pass by the coastline, woods and harbors – in short, you’ll be amazed!

Advanced rides, over 15 km

If you like cycling, the weather’s fine and you’ve got the whole day to enjoy it, let’s get started!

From the bridge to Loix

You’ll discover all kinds of landscapes, passing through La Flotte, Saint-Martin and its harbor, Le Bois and La Couarde. You’ll pass through woods and vineyards, skirt the coast and end up in the marshes. Almost 23km of pure pleasure! 1 hour 40 minutes of discovery.

To discover the whole northern part of the island

You can start at La Couarde and work your way up to Les Portes-en-Ré. Pass through the village of Ars, stop off at the sandy beaches and breathe in the fresh sea air. Over 20 km of walking, 3 hours round trip!

For more experienced riders, sports enthusiasts, cyclists and nature lovers

Try for the Grand Slam! From the bridge at Sablanceaux to Les Portes-en-Ré, 31.5 km of bike paths, 2 hours 15 minutes of bike touring, and Cycland stores along the way!

Is a helmet mandatory?

Yes, helmets are mandatory for children up to 12 years old and are strongly recommended for older children.

What accessories are included with the rental bike?

Cycland will provide you with a lock, bike lights, and, of course, a horn or bell. An adult helmet is optional but highly recommended (€1/day), while a child helmet is mandatory for children up to 12 years old and is therefore provided.
Upon request, we will equip your bike with a basket free of charge.

Do you rent electric bikes?

Yes, we rent electric bikes.
